About B.R.Hills
You may not find B.R.Hills in any standard Atlas ! This is a small village (population: 600) located on the mountain-range in Karnataka State, South India, known as the B.R.T. Range. The exact location of B.R.Hills is 12 deg. North - 77 deg. East, (Grid Locator MK81NX) and the altitude is 4,500 feet above mean sea level. The entire BRT range is declared as a wild-life sanctuary. The nearest town (downtown for me, literally) is YELANDUR, at the foot-hills ? 22 kms distant. The nearest city is MYSORE ? 80 kms West of here. The nearest metropolis is BANGALORE ? 200 kms North of here.
"B.R." stands for Biligiri Ranga ? the name of the deity whose temple (said to be 600 years old) is the local attraction. Pilgrims from the nearby villages and towns visit the temple regularly, and there are two festivals celebrated every year ? one in January and the other in April ? when a whole lot of people (up to 10,000) land here from all over the state. There are plenty of activities during the festivals, including fire-walking and of course lot of QRM.
B.R.Hills is surrounded by forests covering an area of 35,000 acres. The wild life here includes Elephants, Gaurs (Indian Bison), Tigers, Leopards (Panthers), Sloth Bears, several species of Deer, and the Wild boar, and about 150 species of birds. Salubrious weather throughout the year with a maximum of 30 deg.C in summer (April-May) and a minimum of 10 deg.C in winter (December-January).
B.R.Hills is beautiful !
In the beginning, God made Heaven and Earth; B.R.Hills took a little longer !
