Thanks for your great job!
It 'been a pleasure to work there: I got the QSL card quickly and confirmation in LOTW!
Truly an excellent job, excellent delivery and we hope to repeat in a manner so precise elsewhere.
Congratulations to all members of the expedition! 73's Jan I6COJ

Ray, N6VR

This was one of the easiest VU DXpeditions to work on CW. Even though I  did not work you (VU2PTT), many of my West Coast friends did! Thanks too for the 80m CW operation, first time for the West Coast to work VU4!

Too bad about the 20m CW pirate, worked him twice... Another firend worked him as a new one, but we got he god the news too late.

Hope your organizition can do the same for some of the other rare VU islands and IOTA.

Tnx,

Ray,N6VR

Many thanks to the VU4PB crew for an excellent and memorable DXpedition.    With the way the conditions have been in recent years, I had a remote hope that perhaps I could make a 15 meter QSO for a new band.    That was my goal and I was delighted when that happened.    But there's more!    The VU4PB team understood propagation, and knew when a very short long path opening might occur on 12 meters.    I was lucky enough to make that QSO too, and felt very fortunate.    A day or so later each of those QSOs was surpassed with one on 10 meters!    Three new bands for the DXCC Challenge when I didn't know if one band was possible!

My "magic contacts"  did not happen by accident - the VU4PB team understood propagation, and knew when rare openings might occur.   In addition, they had an operator in the chair at those times.   It's easy to talk about radios, amplifiers, and antennas, but the most crucial element of success is still the OPERATOR.   Computers provide us with all types of useful data, but a smart, skilled operator, who knows how to use that data can bring smiles to the faces of any DXer alive.

Thanks VU4PB TEAM.    I appreciate your skill and commitment.    You can be very proud of your fine DXpedition.

40 meters was a disappointment. There was excellent DX conditions on 40 meters and VU4 was not to be heard until only west coast U.S. could work you. Should have been on around 1100 - 1130 Z for middle U.S.

You are going QRT in 11 hours, so there is only ONE CHANCE left for western NA to have a shot on 160m. To our knowledge there has been NO OPERATION ON 160M TO WESTERN NORTH AMERICA, but there has been operation to Europe.

PLEASE be QRV on 160 CW for western NA. Sunrise here in northern CALIFORNIA is just before 1400Z. Topbanders in all of western NA will appreciate an attempt from 1200 to 1400Z. Give us this one chance!

I finally "gotcha" on 10m CW for #321 on that band. But why you QSY :ed to 15m when propagations to EU was good on 10m, remains a mystery to me.

Please stay a bit longer on 10m in the mornings UTC and listen more intensely for EU, especially northern EU as it is  v e r y  hard to work you up here on the higher bands. The propagations to northern Europe are entirely different from propagations to southern and central Europe.

Your propagation prediction for 40 meters to the W5 area is quite accurate, but the first hour or so is lost because there is no VU4PB operator on the band.  Please try starting on 40 CW no later than 1230 UTC.  The band is wide open then.

May I s***est when you go by numbers that you tighten up the split listening range.  If there are only a few guys calling from a call area there's no need for 15KHz.  They have to almost call continuously for you to find them.  5KHz should be plenty for going by numbers and makes it much easier for you to find the callers.

Ladies/Gentlemen,

Some points as below.

a) Priate operation: Unfortunate that there are black sheeps around. The team has decided to update the log within the next 4 hours to give the Dxers an opportunity to make it into the log with us. Sorry about the situation.

b) We now have 3 stations that are capable of running Rtty including me the rookie.  We will focus on open bands and maximize contacts for the Dx community.

c) 40m - will focus on this in this band in the next few days.

d) Keep the feedback coming.

All afternoon (3/25/2011) the station operating as VU4PB on 14.023 MHz appears to be a pirate. Signals peak at 060 degrees from Kansas which place them in Europe somewhere. Signals on 345 degrees from Kansas (short path) and 165 degrees from Kansas (long path) are weak to non-existant. If this is really VU4PB operating from at least 20:13Z through the current time which is 22:51 the path is severely skewed and there is a severe propagation anomaly in progress. The VU4PB ops will have to confirm or deny this though. W0EB

160 m operator last night was good but seemed to str***le with copying stations.   Can you improve the RX-antenna ?

A problem here was a fishing-beacon practically zero beat. Pse  move down 200 Hz,  i.e. 1824.3 or .4

Slow QSB so send callsigns several times and not too fast, as signals go down in the noise rapidly.Hope to make it one evening .

Short path propagation on 17m is very, very good to W3/Maryland between 1400-1700Z the past two days, but most stations worked are in EU.

Your signals were peaking S9 here around 1500-1530Z but few NA stations were able to get through.  It is now 1630Z 3/20 and signals are starting to fade significantly.

The propagation page s***ests that you expect W1/2/3 between 1900-2000Z, and I think it is right if the lowest usable frequency goes above 18MHz... but if I am reading my propagation predictions right,  there is some probability  (seems 40% or so) that the LUF will stay just below 18MHz.

If you could make a strongly enforced call for NA at this time I think you could work many smaller East Coast and possibly other NA stations.  It is clear that EU is very loud with you at this time too.

Dan

Guys: openings from zone 26 to NA tend to be shallow and not last long; you have been S4 - S7 here on 17 cw around 1400 - 1600 Z and your primary focus continues to be Europe.  Even when you ask for USA, you work one or two strong NA stations, then answer a EU calling out of turn, and go back to working EU.  Is that your goal?

Sunday, 20 March 2011 21:03

Hello guys!

Many thanks for QSOs! Please pay more attention to 10m band.

Last Dxpeditios from VU4 land dont much worked on this band because propagation at that years was very poor on 10m.

Now condx improved and many Europeans wont to make QSO with VU4 Dxpedition on 10m.

Good luck!

I must miss something in your way of operating, but how many stns can run at the same time? Operating timetable has been fixed already? It really looks like your priority is NA and AS (which could be understood). But in this case, please explicitely spread this info here.  This would avoid frustration and bad behavior on your TX freq !

Looks like there are some ways to improve your way of handling pile-ups (wider split range, by numbers, etc). Please do not be afraid of EU pile :-)

Thank you for your effort and for the new country.

21:00 UTC + seems to be good for us in southern South America (PY, LU, CX, ZP and others) on 20 mtrs., at least. You chaps had a nice signal tonight (14.002 - QRS operator) when you were calling, and quite a few SA stations managed to worked you.

Hi Guys,

Is it possible to announce in advance that you want to work special direction e.g. NA only in the certain part of the day on a frequency in order to avoid confusion when other part of the World is also hear you at the same time?

Another important thing is that you should not work simplex... Working simplex causes a huge mess on the frequency both to you and the calling stations.
